Pebeo – Oh My!

(132/366): I received a “sampler” kit of Pebeo mixed media for Mother’s Day! I’m just learning how this stuff works but it’s a kick. Total freedom. I had never heard of fluid painting before but simply pouring out color upon color is quick the kick! Also, depending upon the paint “type” you have limited control over how it will react to the next color.

Quick Fix

Day 56: Creative Habits can also be good for gaining a cloak of invisibility and allowing oneself (me) to listen in on the conversations of young adults (my children without appearing too interested and thus scaring them away. It’s also a great way of learning that the above mentioned children actually follow my Creative Habits efforts and have their favorite Instagram postings. Who knew the powers of a simple coloring page and a box of markers.

One Month More Creative

Day 31: One month of creative habits is in the books. I’ve spent the last 31 days incorporating a creative practice into my day, along with blogging about how that routine has impacted my work, outlook, overall demeanor. Anecdotally, it’s a success. I’ve watched less television (easy). I’m more observant. More importantly it’s increasingly easier for me to stop one task and begin another – find the flow of the thoughts quicker whether it’s my creative practice or my work writing. Today was a good day that zipped by quickly. I have a large work presentation that I’m still tackling but…

Color me clueless…

Day 27: I’m a painting newbie. I’ve written before how I was inspired by a local art exhibit to try my hand at painting with acrylics but the last time paints and brushes were available to me must have been in elementary school. So…color me clueless. I bought a color wheel and am fascinated by the mixing and muddling of the colors. Tonight I seriously considered finger painting and can state with a fair amount of confidence that at some point within the year that will happen. When I knit there’s a set pattern that must be “obeyed” or you…

Pysanky and Johnny Carson

Day 12: Tuesdays are Psyanky days. I’m able to easily concentrate on my creative work and in turn enjoy some good insights. When I was little I had an active imagination. I was also very outgoing, very talkative. I’m 50 years old and can remember what a treat it was to sometimes stay up late and watch Johnny Carson. I was certain one day I would be “on” the Johnny Carson show. I would “play interview” like some little kids played school. If asked why I was certain I would one day be on The Tonight Show, my reply would…

Give Me My Routines

I write/communicate for a living. Currently I’m part of an innovation team. My job is making the often very technical test case information easy to grasp and memorable. Its day three (362 more to go) of the year of creative habits and I’m realizing my creative “fix” is going to need a schedule. So here’s my plan to keep the creative juices flowing and the project humming…which in turn I hope will inspire my words both on and off the job. Sunday: Color/doodle/draw Monday: Knit Tuesday: Pysanky Wednesday: Paint Thursday: Zentangle Friday: Color/doodle/draw Saturday: Knit

Day 98 (Counting Down 100 Days to My 50th Birthday)

Well…I tried to reach my steps goal today. I didn’t make it but was decidedly closer than yesterday. What I realized while on my walk throughout the neighborhood was that I don’t look up enough. Today the sky was gorgeous – not a cloud in the sky. My husband tells me I’m developing a slouch from working at my computer. And like so many, I’m guilty of constantly checking my phone for updates. I’m going to try stand taller, look up more often – use my Microsoft Band to keep me updated on texts and incoming mail. I can always…
