Manic Mondays

Day 123 (Year of Creative Habits): *Note: please read the following paragraph as if there were “-” connecting each word. It’s one big, hairy thought. You ever have one of those Mondays where you get up way before dawn to drive four hours to your “work home” so you can take a very important morning conference call only to be created by the very loud chirping of a smoke detector … a wired into your apartment crazy loud smoke detector….so right before the call you’re trying to change the backup battery, which does nothing so instead you try to mute your…

100!

Days 98-101: When I began the Year of Creative Habits I hoped a daily creative activity would ultimately help with my writing. I’m now 101 days in and I think it has – and more. My word choices have expanded, my thoughts jump and connect smoother and I’m able to “dive in” to projects easier. One of the aspects I’ve imposed on my daily creative practice is that it takes no more time than 30 minutes to an hour. In turn, these short bursts of concentrated focus have helped me learn to grab onto and complete writing assignments quicker . This…

Give me circles

Days 94 & 95: I’m fond of circles. I like the continuity, the serenity, the completeness and calm I find in the circular form. Yesterday and today’s creative habits have involved circles.                 While watching the college basketball (another circle) final game I drew a Mandala.                 Reminiscing about black light posters from my 70s childhood.

10

It’s been 10 days since I last blogged about my ongoing “year of creative habits” practice. The creativity has been ongoing but the writing has stagnated. I’m looking at changing up my writing time and somehow fitting it into my morning routine as opposed to late in the evening – henceforth today’s early morning post. Spring showers – I woke up at 4am to a perfect spring thunderstorm with just the right amount of lightning and rain. My cloud study from this past Monday:                 Other creative habits, days 75-83, include:    …

Kansas City Days

Days 63-68: My weeks are filled with travel. Nothing exotic but recently I’ve move around a great amount. In the last two weeks I’ve been in Joplin, Rogers, Arkansas; St. Louis, back to Joplin, and then to Kansas City. I love Kansas City. It’s a wonderful sensory overload experience of which I enjoy every minute. Visually I can’t get enough.  I captured graphic elements  to incorporate later into paintings or Zentangles; colors that I want to intertwine in my next knitted project. Day 63:                 Day 64:            …

Making the creative days count

Day 44, 45, 46 (Year of Creative Habits): Day 44: Saturdays are often full activities, this week was no exception. It’s become my “habit” to fill the morning with some creative expression. This weekend was cold and bright, the perfect backdrop for knitting my off-white wrap. The super-bulky yarn begs to be a little longer. Too bad I’ve started and ripped up this piece a couple of times.   Day 45: Valentine’s Day was quiet, starting with a first Sunday of Lent church service. Our minister shared this quote from Dorothy Butler Bass, “We yearn to see our lives matter.”…
